Honoring the Past, Growing Hope: Hope Givers’ Tree-Planting Campaign in Remembrance of the Yazidi Genocide

In remembrance of the genocide the Yazidis were subjected to in Sinjar district, the “Hope Givers” group carried out a tree-planting campaign in the ancient village of Tel Qasab, south of Sinjar district, on the ninth anniversary of the Yazidi genocide. This initiative was funded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and in coordination with the Youth Groups in the village and Qairawan Municipality Directorate.


A total of 130 trees were planted in the village alleys to honor the victims of the ISIS attack on Sinjar. The planting activity involved village elders and survivors of ISIS captivity within Hope Givers group.


The Hope Givers is a group of youth survivors from ISIS prisons, established in 2022, with the aim of advocating and defending the rights of survivors and victims. This tree-planting campaign marks the first activity of the group.
